Some of My Puppetry Background
Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you?
I teach the 3-5 year olds' jr. church, and I really enjoy it. When I can't find a great script here to go along with my lesson, I make one to fit, just right, so that the week's lesson- more importantly, God's truth, is communicated clearly and appropriately for my little ones.
Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation.
I use puppets twice in our usual routine. first out in front of the stage to teach a specific habit (Penelope the polite Flamingo is a favorite) and then my teens share the puppet story later in the lesson.
Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area?
My Mom, a tremendous Pastor's wife and jr. church teacher for 30 some years, always used Mr. Grinch about once a month. All of us, her jr. church kids, were always excited to see him b/c we knew that he would teach us something important, and b/c he would make us laugh really hard!
Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts?
My imagination, inspired by a mom who read to us, and I'm sure some good old Children's Bible Hour which we always listened to on Sunday mornings growing up.
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry?
Speak clearly and LOUDLY! that seems to be the hardest thing for my teens.
Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them?
Izzy the inch worm- she teaches us we can get the job done little by little. And Robby the Ribbit, he tells us a story each week that illustrates something hilarious my 3yr. old learned that week!
Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts?
Truth and a chuckle
Q: What would you do if you were a puppet?
Make a mess every time I was pulled out of the puppet bag- my little ones always relate to making messes!
