Some of My Puppetry Background |
Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you? |
I am very involved with the Children's Church program at Garden Cathedral Church of God. I love to write and so why not use my talents to help children? |
Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation. |
Our organization gives children who may not have ever heard the name of Jesus a chance to accept His forgiveness and live with Him in Heaven. We use puppets to engage the kids in the Bible story or reinforce a memory verse. |
Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area? |
As I said, I love to write and our church needed somebody to do it, so why not me? |
Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts? |
My inspiration comes from other puppet scripts and from my interests. For example I have always found pirates very interesting and I recently wrote a skit about storing up your treasures in Heaven... Pirate style! My family and friends also give me wonderful ideas. |
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry? |
Don't give up! if a certain script isn't working for you just choose another angle. Evenetually you'll find something to work with, and it'll be so much better if you don't settle for the bare minimum. Simple dialouge is VERY boring to children so spice it up! |
Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them? |
My favorite puppet character is Kermit the Frog because he is a quiet person but does what's right anyway. |
Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts? |
Humor. That's the way to go to get a child's attention. Costumes also make the show WAY easier to pay attenetion to. |
Q: What would you do if you were a puppet? |
I would go to children's church and teach kids about God of course! |
