Some of My Puppetry Background
Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you?
As the puppet ministry leader of my church, I write scripts tailored to specific performances and events. Until I discovered this site, I could not find scripts that were well suited to our audience.
Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation.
Foam Force is a puppet team with the goal of reaching kids in our church and community with the gospel. We also strive to grow as a team and learn how to work together for the glory of God.
Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area?
My introduction to puppets began in the church I attend now, but that team no longer exists. I learned some useful puppeteering techniques in college, so I'm trying to bring that training and enthusiasm to the church I grew up in.
Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts?
My puppet scripts are always founded on biblical principles. Occasionally I incorporate events from my life or the lives of others into my scripts, but they always have a grounding in the gospel.
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry?
Have as much fun with puppets as you can, and your audience will have fun with you!
Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them?
I reserve a special place in my heart for Ralph and Elmer. The puns flow freely when I control one of them, and kids seem to universally enjoy their appearance.
Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts?
Quality scripts have virtues instilled in them that not only cause kids to think, but adults as well.
Q: What would you do if you were a puppet?
I would dream of becoming a real boy someday.
