Some of My Puppetry Background |
Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you? |
I'm the puppet minister at my church and I thought it might be fun to try. |
Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation. |
Our puppets help not only teach the kids of our church some basic christian theories but also love and respect in one another. We've learned to be closer as a team and a church. |
Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area? |
A couple of years ago a friend asked me to do a puppet show for her class. I had never even seen a puppet show. So, naturally I researched online and found puppets and stuff. From then on I learned how to make my on puppets and found that my local christian bookstore had a single puppet script book with a cd. I grabbed a friend and a young boy in the Sunday School class I teach and trained them. Next thing they knew we were performing shows for the whole church and even other churches. |
Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts? |
Definately the Bible. I can use it as a basis for any show. It's like an ingredient. Like, if you are going to make brownies from a mix the Bible would be the mix. |
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry? |
Pray, for you and your puppeteers. You will need it for sure! |
Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them? |
Gonzo, I love his hook nose and when he flies through the air out of a cannon. I really enjoy his chickens too. |
Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts? |
The lessons learned and the body. I think all scripts need to be long enough to get the message and short enough to have action and laughs. |
Q: What would you do if you were a puppet? |
Probably sit on the puppet stand with my mouth open. |
