|Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you?
|Sometimes I write scripts to cover a specific topic that I can't find in a published script.
|Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation.
|Our puppet ministry has been performing for about 10 years. We mainly perform plays for our children's church on Sunday but we have had the opportunity to go to Mexico and perform puppet plays in Spanish as part of a larger Youth Group mission outreach.
|Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area?
|My pastor wanted to start a puppet ministry for the children on Sunday and he asked if I wanted to get it going and I said yes. I started learning eveything I could about puppetry (and still learning) so I could be a convincing puppeteer. Puppetry is an excellent teaching tool.
|Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts?
|With my original script writing, most of the time I get ideas from my Bible reading. Also, sometimes I see or hear things during the course of my day that I think might translate into a script.
|Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry?
|The quicker you get over your inhibitions about performing the quicker you will enjoy the craft.
Also, practice, practice, practice. Don't let your message be lost because of bad puppetry skills.
|Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them?
|I am a big fan of the Swedish Chef. I find him funny.
|Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts?
|I think the sign of a great puppet script is how well it engages the children and gets the Biblical point across to the audience. The script must be interesting to a child as well as funny and silly yet still teach the bibical lesson.
|Q: What would you do if you were a puppet?
|Not answered yet.
