Some of My Puppetry Background
Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you?
I started to write skits to be able to use all the puppets we had. By adding "props" such as hats, jewelry, different clothes, etc. That way we could change the character of the puppets & use different combinations. It is a blast to have scripture combined with everyday thing kids deal with in this world.
Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation.
We are a small, but growing church in East Texas. As we grow in younger ages there was a need for added programs for the children. We have a skit the second Sunday of each month. At first only two were involved, but as we are growing we have added another puppeteer.
Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area?
I had joined the church & wanted to be of service, so I ask the pastor & his wife what was the vision for the church & how I could help. His wife suggested a puppet ministry. I get to make funny voices & have a blast. Its a blessing.
Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts?
I have used your resourses & others on the internet, but I felt a need to address the problems & situations that our youth have to face in day to day life. At school, family problems, etc. So I ask the kids to make me a list of what they would like to see skit about. Wow, what a response! I was given a long list.
We are a small town, so sometimes the skit could be about something in our community or approaching holidays. I have just started, but have a lot of ideas.
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry?
Always pray for your ministry & meet for prayer before a skit is done. I also have at least two kids & two other adults to read what we are going to be doing. Scripture with chapter & verse always checked & included. Have fun. Always show God reverence.
Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them?
I like any. You can use any of them, if you use your imagination. I would like to expand our puppets to include some animals one day.
Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts?
That scripture is correct. Use in a way that will make people want to listen.
Q: What would you do if you were a puppet?
Praise God in song & dance & have lots of friends

This skit helps Joe see how someone uses bad language, maybe even in ways they don't realized. Also that God can change the way we use our language & teach us his way
