Some of My Puppetry Background |
Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you? |
When I first started doing puppet skits we had a limited number of puppets. I wrote skits to fit the puppets we had. Now, we have a much larger amount of puppets and I am able to write a wider range of skits. |
Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation. |
The middle school / children's creative ministry of Calvary Baptist Church in Asheville, NC really got its start in the summer of 2005. I took some kids and through the summer we did puppet shows for nursing homes, our day care chapel service, and summer camp. The kids continued into the fall and look forward to many new adventures. |
Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area? |
I started with puppets when I was a teenager. We had a small puppet / drama ministry. |
Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts? |
God. Jesus. Life. How do you narrow something like this down? I pray and read God's Word, and ideas hit me. They could come from a life experience, or something I see on TV, or any other place in life. For the day care chapel service and children's worship, I try create a lesson plan, and then try to come up with skits to fit the lesson. One of my puppeteers also inputs her thoughts and ideas. |
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry? |
DON'T DO IT!! (just kidding). Have fun and have a sense of humor. |
Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them? |
Kermit -- honesty
Gonzo -- funny
|
Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts? |
A point and a plot. |
Q: What would you do if you were a puppet? |
I wonder who this strange person with their hand up my back is... |
