Some of My Puppetry Background
Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you?
The Lord has spoken into my heart and I know that my purpose and drive is to reach children for Christ. The puppet ministry is a gift the Lord has entrusted to me and my family. I love to find new and creative ways to bring the word of God to life.
Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation.
My church is in the chicago area and the church continues to grow everyweek. We are a multi-culture church and love to preach about Jesus, salvation, sin etc. Please visit the web-site. Our church offers many programs and is a church for the hurting.
Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area?
I got started in puppets about 7 years ago. I worked with a young pastor who reached out to my husband and I through the puppet ministry. The ministry was something unique and fun and now after so many years my husband and I are the puppet directors at our church.
Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts?
My inspiration to write puppets skits is the children. The age group we work with is 6 through 12. This is a big range and we needed a way to reach each child with the same message. Through the puppet ministry we have been able to do this. We even have adults who come and enjoy the puppet skits as well.
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry?
Be prepared to work. The puppet minsitry looks easy to run with the eyes, but behind the scenes it's alot of work. Be creative and have fun and pray. Prayer is the key to move the hands of God.
If you ever need advise email me, my address is in my profile.
Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them?
I love the Muppets. I'm 35 years young and grew up watching them. When the pastor came and asked me to do puppets I said yes! At first my husband said no but when I bought him a puppet in faith, it worked. He could not resist playing with his new toy. I love the puppets from One Way Street and Puppet Productions I have a few from both.
Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts?
Have a good beginning and a interesting middle and reel them in, in the end. I try to have a christian message in each skit I write. I love for the children to leave asking questions about the skits and talking to their parents about what they heard and learned. The parents learn lessons as well. Praise God
Q: What would you do if you were a puppet?
I have no idea but I have a character, her name is Cherry. She is my alter-ego and the kids love her she's a red furry puppet and talks like a child herself. The kids love when she comes out to talk to them and getting their attention is my goal. I love it!!
