Some of My Puppetry Background
Q: Why do you write puppet scripts? What motivates you?
I contribute on the principle, "If you take something, give something back." So if you're reading this, I may have used your script for my own ministry.
Q: Tell us about your church or puppet organisation.
I'm one of the new guys here, former kids pastor. I'm focused on orphans and abandoned babies now.
Q: How did you get started in puppets and what attracted you to this area?
I was attracted to puppets by Sesame Street and the Muppets as a child. I found I was allowed to do puppets in Kids Church as a kid, and grew up to do Kids Ministry.
Q: Where does your inspiration come from to write puppet scripts?
I like character driven stories. When I teach a lesson, I know the characters well enough to know how they would respond to certain situations. Good puppeteers also help produce material just by playing around.
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in puppetry?
Use a video camera to watch yourself from the audience's perspective.
Q: Who are your favourite puppet characters and what do you like about them?
I tend to lean toward animal or critter puppets. I'm sure it has to do with the Muppets influence. But also, if I'm doing a human skit, I might as well skip the puppets and just use people.
Q: What are the most important qualities in great puppet scripts?
Humor. Puppets, in my opinion, is not a good medium for heavy messages. Better for parables and light hearted intros to heavier principles.
Q: What would you do if you were a puppet?
Probably cut my strings to my own demise...
